Education and work history
2018–present: PhD student, School of Clinical Dentistry, University of Sheffield
2014–2018: BSc Biotechnology and Microbiology (with a year in industry), University of York:
Summer project: Characterising a potential lignocellulose degrading enzyme identified in rice straw compost (Prof. Neil Bruce).
Year in industry project: Investigating the role of glycosylation of the salivary protein BPIFA2/SPLUNC2 in its ability to bind to oral bacteria (Dr. Lynne Bingle, University of Sheffield).
Final year project: High-throughput screening of E. coli overexpression library to identify genes involved in erythromycin resistance (Prof. Peter McGlynn).
Current research
I am a BBSRC CASE student working on a project using proteomics to uncover cellular mechanisms at work under high cell density recombinant protein production in E. coli and potentially develop improved production platforms.
This project is carried out in collaboration with FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies and is supervised by Professor Graham Stafford, Dr Caroline Evans, Professor Jeff Green (University of Sheffield) and Chris Lennon (FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies).
