Phage work featured on ITV news

The labs work on phage hunting was featured on the National ITV News at 10 on 22nd September 2023.  Our efforts to detect and isolate phage in the droppings of Endangered species from the Yorkshire Wildlife Park was widerly featured across media outlets and news channels.  The highlights being an appearance on ITV National and local news.

As part of a BBSRC funded PhD project, Karolina and Graham have and continue to isolate a range of phage from the faecal matter of a range of zoo animals.

These have yielded phage attacking antibiotic resistant bacteria from the feet of diabetic foot ulcer patients in Sheffield.

The work has wide-ranging implications and we hope to gain more funding in this area and encourage anyone with PhD funding or would like to come and work on phage via a fellowship application to get in touch.

We also have a PhD project on structural dissection of a VRE phage upcoming- watch out for the advert.
